Soon after Hurricane Mitch wrought devastation throughout Honduras, the friars moved to Comayagua, Honduras and set up their first friary in Central America. After years of listening to the people, and discerning what their most pressing material needs were, the friars, under the leadership of Fr. Herald Brock, CFR, and in collaboration with Light of the World Ministries, started fundraising for a new medical center, the Saint Benedict Joseph Medical Center.
Saint Benedict Joseph Medical Center offers totally free services to the poorest of the poor in our region of Honduras. Now, more than fifteen years after it's opening, SBJ has served more than 200,000 patients in a variety of ways including: life altering surgeries, medical exams, medicine, vitamins, physical therapy, dental care, and variety of other health services. As Fr. Herald says so eloquently, the Saint Benedict Joseph Medical Center is quite clearly "a work of God."
